Crisis Communications

I have extensive crisis communications experience across high-pressure, fast-moving situations. In August 2024, I helped lead communications for the shutdown of a major apartment complex in Aurora, coordinating messaging to residents, media and officials while ensuring public safety and transparency. Previously in Reno, I handled several emergency responses — including the Pinehaven Fire in November 2020, the downtown Reno riots in May 2020, and a major regional flood event in early 2017. Across these incidents, I managed real-time public information, developed clear and accurate updates, supported emergency operations teams, and ensured that residents, media, and stakeholders received timely, actionable information. I also attended the FEMA National Emergency Training Center's Emergency Management Institute (EMI) four-day course in 2014 with City of Reno staff and regional partners.

Public Relations

I bring more than two decades of public relations and strategic communications experience, primarily in government and public service. I’ve led media relations, crisis communications, and proactive messaging for police, fire, 911 dispatch, and more than 20 city departments across multiple municipalities. My work has focused on shaping public perception, informing citizens, guiding leadership communication, and building trust through clear, timely, and strategic storytelling. From press conferences and speeches to community outreach, city council reporting, and public safety content, I’ve consistently helped organizations communicate with purpose and credibility.

Government Relations/Public Affairs

I have extensive experience in government relations and public affairs, helping city leadership communicate effectively with residents, stakeholders, and the media. I’ve guided strategic messaging on complex policy issues, supported public safety initiatives, and reported on city council actions to ensure transparency and public understanding. My work includes building relationships across departments, coordinating community engagement efforts, overseeing public information campaigns, and advising leadership during high-profile or sensitive situations. I focus on clarity, credibility, and trust — ensuring government messages reach the right audiences in the right way.

Journalism

My career began in journalism, where I developed a strong foundation in storytelling, writing, editing, and photography. I served as a reporter, page designer, associate editor, and later managing editor of Nevada’s official state tourism publication, overseeing digital and print content, supervising editorial and design teams, and producing articles, photos, videos, and special editions. I worked closely with freelance contributors, crafted compelling stories on deadline, and helped shape publication strategy across multiple platforms. These early journalism roles built the skills that still drive my work today — clear communication, attention to detail, narrative structure, visual storytelling, and a focus on audience connection.

Event Planning

I have extensive event planning experience, coordinating high-profile public events that connect leadership with the community. I’ve helped organize multiple State of the City addresses, press conferences, and large-scale public engagement events — including the 1980s-themed downtown Reno celebration in May 2018 that drew strong public participation and media coverage. My role often included concept development, logistics coordination, messaging strategy, speech support, media outreach, and on-site management. I approach events as an opportunity to tell a story, build relationships, and create meaningful experiences that strengthen community engagement.
